In the morning of 11 September, our Assistant Coach Tao Wei, first-team player Yu Dabao and Ba Dun along with several fan representatives visited the Bethel China's Home of the Visually Impaired in Zhoukoudian, Fangshan District, Beijing.
Bethel China is a non-profit organisation found by the French couple, Guillaume and Delphine Gauvain, in 2003, receiving orphaned children with visual impairment. Bethel China provided these children with a catering home with medical rehabilitation and special education, helping them to cultivate their own potential and seeking their paths back to the society.
According to the teachers, the currently inpatient children are orphans aged between 0-12; some of them have multiple disabilities. At the institute, these children receive tactile, walking, and preliminary braille trainings, as well as rehabilitation and 24-hour care. Eye surgery is also provided depending on the conditions of the children, allowing them retain or recover their vision. Children with apparent improvement and recovery are evaluated to determine whether they are fit for adoption and to transfer to permanent home.
During their visit, Tao, Yu and Ba quickly broke the ice with their warmth and interacted with the children, learning about their study and life at the institute. The trio also presented the club's donation to the institute. We hope to call for more attention to these disabled group through this activity and help these kids grow in a happy and healthy environment.
